RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s representative at Miss World 2026, Audrey Bianca Callista, highlights sustainability and community empowerment through the Beauty With a Purpose (BWAP) program. Through the initiative, Audrey is promoting the use of solar energy to support communities in Letepalolo Village, Southwest Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara.
The program, titled “Habis Gelap Terbitlah Terang” (After Darkness, Comes Light), focuses on providing sustainable solar-powered electricity, building a community center, and providing learning facilities for children in the village. The initiative is also part of Audrey’s commitment to creating a meaningful impact through her participation in Miss World.
At Miss World, the Beauty With a Purpose program encourages contestants to bring social and humanitarian issues from their respective countries to the international stage. The program allows the pageant to go beyond beauty and achievement by encouraging participants to make a positive contribution to communities in their home countries.
Audrey is involved in an initiative that harnesses solar energy as a source of electricity for the people of Letepalolo Village. A total of 310 residents in 73 households in the village previously lived without access to electricity. In addition to developing solar-powered community facilities and providing lighting for dozens of local homes, Audrey also established the Kartini Library, a safe and well-lit space where children can study.
The renewable energy initiative is not only expected to support residents’ daily activities and provide better access to lighting, but also emphasizes long-term sustainability. Local communities are provided with knowledge about the use and maintenance of renewable energy facilities so that the benefits can continue to be enjoyed over time.
The solar-powered facilities demonstrate how simple and environmentally friendly technology can provide tangible benefits to communities in areas with limited access to electricity. At the same time, the program shows how the transition to clean energy can go hand in hand with efforts to improve education and community well-being.
For Audrey, the program is not only about environmental sustainability, but also about community empowerment. Better access to energy can support various community activities, including education, social activities, and everyday needs.
Through Beauty With a Purpose, Audrey aims to introduce Indonesia’s potential as well as the challenges faced by its communities to an international audience. Sumba is an important part of her story, as the region has significant solar energy potential while still facing challenges in ensuring equitable access to electricity.
Audrey’s participation in Miss World 2026, which is being held in Vietnam from August 9 to September 5, 2026, provides an opportunity to bring the story of Indonesian communities to the international stage. Through her BWAP initiative, Audrey demonstrates that Indonesia’s representative at a global beauty pageant can also promote messages of sustainability, education, community empowerment, and social responsibility.
