RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is intensifying international collaborations to strengthen the competitiveness and quality of its destinations, with Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana positioning tourism as a driver of economic growth and social welfare.

Minister Widiyanti emphasized that the government is forging extensive partnerships worldwide to enhance Indonesia’s tourism appeal. “Our goal is clear: to make tourism a catalyst for economic growth, job creation, foreign exchange, and equitable development,” she said in Jakarta on Monday, August 10, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

One example was Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit in July 2026, which included Prambanan Temple. The occasion was leveraged to promote Indonesian tourism in India through the Wonderful Indonesia campaign, digital outreach, joint promotions, and familiarization trips with Indian travel agents.

The minister noted that strong interest from Indian audiences is expected to boost arrivals and encourage exploration of destinations beyond Prambanan.

Collaboration also extends domestically. The Tourism Ministry signed an MoU with the Social Affairs Ministry to support the Sekolah Rakyat program, providing land at the Bandung Tourism Polytechnic for new facilities, strengthening tourism awareness curricula, and offering scholarships for 20 percent of graduates to continue higher education in tourism.

Further coordination includes ministerial meetings on Bali’s development, with plans for a masterplan to disperse visitor flows from South Bali to the north, east, and west, integrated with improved connectivity, services, and community empowerment.

To reinforce destination quality, Minister Widiyanti inspected Belitung ahead of the Belitong UNESCO Global Geopark revalidation in August 2026, supporting the effort with signage, bilingual information boards, and international seminars. Similar preparations are underway at East Java’s Ijen Geopark.

The ministry also continues to champion special‑interest tourism and events, backing 125 regional festivals under Karisma Event Nusantara 2026 across 38 provinces. By July, 61 events had been held, drawing 4.77 million visitors and generating IDR 276.84 billion in direct economic transactions, while engaging thousands of SMEs, artists, and workers. ***
