Ubud Village Jazz Festival 2026 Unites Global Jazz Musicians in Bali

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The 2026 Ubud Village Jazz Festival (UVJF) brought together musicians from across the world, reaffirming Bali’s position as a hub of global jazz diplomacy.
From French experimental duo Watchdog and Japan’s acclaimed H ZETTRIO to the multinational Jadi Peperzak Quartet, the festival became a melting pot of international cultures.
The 2026 edition was held over two days across three interconnected stages: the Community Stage, the Giri Stage, and the Subak Stage, the latter two set among trees and riverbank rock formations. Ten performances were staged from Saturday afternoon through Saturday night on August 8, the festival’s second day.
As reported by Antara, the second day opened at 4:30 p.m. local time with Westside Vinyl DeeJays at the Community Stage and the JZ.KA Trio at the Subak Stage.
The JZ.KA Trio -- comprising Putu Angelika (piano, vocals), Jesse Adiputra (drums), and Samuel Pardosi (double bass) -- performed on the Subak Stage during the festival’s closing night, representing a new generation of Balinese jazz musicians.
Their appearance was part of the Preservation of Jazzistry program, which aims to provide a platform for talented young musicians in Indonesia.
“I am happy to be able to learn jazz. I have fallen in love with jazz, and I feel there is still so much I can learn from it,” said vocalist and pianist Putu Angelika at STHALA Ubud Bali on Sunday, August 9, 2026.
Koko Harsoe & SAN Trio, France’s Watchdog, Pong Nakornchai Ensemble, Dodot Trio, String Corner Project, H ZETTRIO, Jadi Peperzak Quartet, and Salamander Big Band also performed on the festival’s closing day.
Dodot Trio -- consisting of pianist Dodot Atmojo, Helmy Agustrian (double bass), and Wisnu Priambodo (drums) -- presented works from their debut album The Story of White Piano.
French duo Watchdog, featuring Anne Quillier and Pierre Horckmans, performed compositions from their latest album Fables, supported by Association Jazzé Croisé and the Institut Français Indonesia.
The Pong Nakornchai Ensemble -- comprising Thai drummer Pong Nakornchai, Indonesian bassist Indra Gupta, and guitarist Michael Ananda Aartsen -- performed compositions by American saxophonist Joe Rosenberg.
The Jadi Peperzak Quartet, featuring Dutch guitarist Jadi Peperzak, Indonesian pianist Kasyfi Kalyasyena, Nepalese bassist Sulav Maharjan, and Dutch drummer Rafael Slors, presented material from their debut album Amity.
H ZETTRIO, an instrumental trio from Japan known for their distinctive colored noses -- blue for pianist H ZETT M, red for bassist H ZETT NIRE, and silver for drummer H ZETT KOU -- performed works from their latest album QUESTUNE on the Giri Stage.
String Corner Project energized the Subak Stage with a blend of flamenco guitar, jazz improvisation, and Indonesian rhythms through a collaboration between guitarists Adien Fazmail and Icang Rahimy.
Salamander Big Band closed the festival with a late-night performance on the Giri Stage just before midnight on Saturday.
The Ubud Village Jazz Festival has been held 13 times and is scheduled to return next year. Organizers announced that the next edition will take place on August 6–7, 2027, at STHALA Ubud Bali. ***
