Prahara Pulau Emas Photo Exhibition Highlights Disaster in Sumatra

RRI.CO.ID, Banda Aceh - A total of 140 photojournalistic works documenting the impact of hydrometeorological disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra are on display in the Prahara Pulau Emas (Golden Island Upheaval) exhibition at the Aceh Tsunami Museum in Banda Aceh. Running from August 3 to 8, 2026, the exhibition not only presents disaster documentation, but also highlights stories of community resilience and post-disaster recovery.
As reported by infopublik.id, the exhibition is a collaboration between Photojournalists Association of Indonesia (PFI) Central Board and the mataWaktu Visual Research Foundation, with support from State-owned Power Company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN ) as the main sponsor. PFI Aceh serves as the host for the Aceh roadshow stop.
The exhibition was opened by Banda Aceh Mayor, Illiza Sa’aduddin Djamal, and attended by PFI Central Board Chairperson, Dwi Pambudo, mataWaktu Visual Research Foundation founder, Oscar Motuloh, exhibition curator, Danu Kusworo; and PLN Aceh Distribution Main Unit (IUD) General Manager, Eddi Saputra.
The 140 displayed works consist of single photos and photo stories by 45 photographers from various regions, as well as PLN field officers involved in restoring electricity networks after the disasters. All works were curated by senior Kompas photo editor, Danu Kusworo.
PLN Aceh General Manager, Eddi Saputra, said the exhibition does not merely show the grief caused by the disaster. It also reflects the spirit of mutual cooperation, community resilience, and the dedication of PLN personnel in restoring electricity supply in emergency conditions.
“For PLN, every light that turns back on is not merely the restoration of electricity flow. That light signifies the return of hope, the resumption of public services, the revival of the economy, and the recovery of people’s lives,” said Eddi on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.
PFI Aceh Chairperson, M. Anshar, expressed hope that the exhibition will serve as an educational space for the public. He added that the event aims to strengthen collaboration among professional organizations, the business sector, and the community in building disaster-mitigation awareness.
He said Prahara Pulau Emas is not only a space for reflection on disaster events, but also a learning medium that encourages greater public awareness of the importance of preparedness and collaboration in facing disasters.
The Aceh Tsunami Museum is the third stop in the exhibition roadshow, following earlier showings at Omah Petroek in Sleman, Yogyakarta and Istano Basa Pagaruyung in West Sumatra. After Banda Aceh, the exhibition will continue in Medan from August 10 to 15, 2026. ***
