RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Regional Handicraft Council (Dekranasda) of West Muna Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, in collaboration with fashion designer AIDA AHO, showcased a traditional textile collection on the runway of BTN Indonesia Fashion Week (IFW) 2026.
Titled Simfoni Tenun Muna Barat Benteng Tiworo (Symphony of West Muna Benteng Tiworo Woven Textiles), the collection was presented on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Senayan.
The collection draws inspiration from the geometric motifs and cultural philosophy of the traditional Benteng Tiworo Liwu Mokesa handwoven fabric (wastra). Designed by Siti Nur Aida Aho under the leadership of West Muna Dekranasda Chairwoman Rhika Purwaningsih Darwin, the garments combine modern silhouettes and high fashion cuts with traditional woven materials crafted by local artisans.
Initiated by the Indonesian Fashion Designers and Entrepreneurs Association (APPMI), BTN IFW 2026 runs from July 29 to August 2, 2026, centered around the theme Ulos Simetria to highlight Indonesian traditional textiles, regional creativity, and sustainable fashion ecosystems.
Project leaders and designers emphasized that integrating traditional textiles into contemporary haute couture makes regional heritage relevant to global markets without diluting its ancestral roots.
Designer Siti Nur Aida Aho explained the cultural significance embedded in the textile patterns and the vision behind the design collection.
"This collection was born out of a spirit to preserve the Benteng Tiworo Liwu Mokesa woven textile, a cultural heritage of West Muna Regency, the geometric motifs on this textile are not merely decoration, but symbols of the Muna people's life philosophy—balance, order, and harmony," she said during IFW 2026 in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Aida added that the design approach bridges local craftsmanship with international fashion standards. "The objective is to make West Muna woven textiles relevant for the global market and luxury ready-to-wear fashion, without stripping away their soul," she noted. ***
