Minister Sjafrie Receives Courtesy Call from Singapore’s Defense Attaché

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, received a courtesy call from Singapore’s Defense Attaché, ME7 Gan Chee Weng Melvin, at the Ministry of Defense office in Jakarta on Monday, October 5, 2026. The meeting was part of a series of defense diplomacy engagements between Indonesia and Singapore.

The courtesy call also marked the end of ME7 Gan Chee Weng Melvin’s tenure as Singapore’s Defense Attaché to Indonesia. The meeting reflected the continued communication and defense cooperation between the two countries.

On the occasion, Defense Minister Sjafrie expressed his appreciation for ME7 Gan Chee Weng Melvin’s dedication and contributions during his assignment in Indonesia. His contributions were considered instrumental in facilitating communication and strengthening defense cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore.

Defense relations between Indonesia and Singapore have continuously develops through various forms of cooperation and communication of both countries’ defense institutions. Such cooperation plays a pivotal role in maintaining bilateral relations while strengthening coordination in the defense sector.

Following his meeting with the Indonesian Defense Minister, ME7 Gan Chee Weng Melvin also held meetings with Vice Minister of Defense Donny Ermawan Taufanto and Secretary General of the Ministry of Defense Lieutenant General TNI Tri Budi Utomo. The meeting with senior officials of the Indonesian Ministry of Defense were also part of the ongoing defense communication between Indonesia and Singapore.

As quoted from the Ministry of Defense’s website, the meetings served not only as a gesture of appreciation ahead of the conclusion of ME7 Gan Chee Weng Melvin’s assignment, but also as an opportunity to further reinforce the cooperation that has been established between the two countries. Communication between Indonesia and Singapore is expected to continue constructively in support of their shared defense interests.
