RRI.CO.ID, Gianyar - Indonesia is seeking to broaden overseas employment opportunities for its migrant workers by targeting growing demand in the cruise ship and logistics industries, while strengthening training programs to better match global labor market needs.

The Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection (P2MI) Ministry is exploring placement opportunities in both sectors through closer collaboration with industry partners and vocational education institutions.

Deputy P2MI Minister Christina Aryani said the cruise ship industry presents significant opportunities for Indonesian workers if their skills and qualifications can be aligned with international recruitment requirements.

“The cruise ship industry is one of the sectors that offers opportunities for Indonesian workers," Christina said in a statement released on Friday, October 2, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

"To seize those opportunities, strong collaboration is needed between the government, training institutions, and industry players to ensure workers are prepared according to market needs, including English-language proficiency,” she added.

The opportunities were discussed during Christina’s meeting with representatives of MSC Cruises and a visit to the Bali Land Transportation Polytechnic (Poltrada Bali) on Thursday, October 1, 2026.

In addition to the cruise industry, Christina highlighted logistics as another sector with strong overseas employment prospects. During her visit to Poltrada Bali, she reviewed logistics management education and training programs that could help prepare Indonesian workers for international placements.

“We see opportunities to further develop competencies in this field to meet labor demand in airports, seaports, as well as industrial and manufacturing sectors,” she added.

According to Christina, existing training programs can be adapted to the requirements of global employers, including the possibility of offering shorter and more targeted courses that respond directly to labor market demand.

She emphasized that curriculum adjustments should be guided by the needs of industries and employers in destination countries so that prospective migrant workers possess relevant and competitive skills.

“The P2MI Ministry will continue building partnerships with educational and training institutions, regional administrations, and the private sector to develop a migrant worker preparation model that is more responsive to labor market needs,” Christina concluded.

The initiative forms part of the ministry’s broader strategy to diversify employment opportunities for Indonesian migrant workers while improving the quality, competitiveness, and readiness of the country's workforce in the international job market. ***
