RRI.CO. ID, JAKARTA - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has officially dispatched the Garuda Bhayangkara Contingent Formed Police Unit (FPU) 8 MINUSCA to carry out a United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic. A total of 140 personnel, consisting of 114 male officers and 26 female officers, will serve for 12 months in Bangui, the capital city. MINUSCA is the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic.

The deployment ceremony was held at the Rupattama Building of the National Police Headquarters in Jakarta on Thursday, October 1, 2026. The FPU 8 contingent is scheduled to depart on October 10, 2026, to rotate with FPU 7, which has completed its 12-month tour of duty in the mission area.

Chief of the International Relations Division of Polri, Inspector General Dr. Untung Widyatmoko, explained that the main task of FPU 8 will be the protection of civilians, while also assisting in maintaining political and security stability in Bangui. He emphasized that the security situation in the city remains fragile. “Their main focus is of course the protection of civilians, maintaining political security stability in Bangui, which is currently still unstable,” Untung said on Thursday, October 2, 2026.

According to Untung, the security dynamics in Bangui are still facing high political volatility and rapid situational developments. During their assignment, Indonesian police personnel will join FPUs from other countries under the command of the UN peacekeeping mission.

“We hope that everything can be carried out well by FPU 8. They depart as 140 and return as 140, Amen,” he said.

Prior to deployment, all personnel underwent seven months of pre-operation preparation and training at the Police Peacekeeping Training Center in Serpong. The Commander of FPU 8 MINUSCA, Police Grand Commissioner Alex F.L. Tobing, stated that the deployment will begin with a 14-person advance team led by himself and his staff on October 3, 2026.

This advance team will depart early for Bangui to conduct the handover and carry out initial coordination with various components in the mission area. Subsequently, the remaining 126 personnel of the main body will follow about a week later for a full rotation with FPU 7. This mission reinforces Indonesia’s position as the world’s fifth-largest contributor to UN peacekeeping forces.

“We ask for prayers and blessings from all Indonesian people. We, the 140 personnel representing Polri, will carry out our assignment in the international mission and give our best for the nation and the country,” Alex said.
