Parliament Calls for Stronger Palestinian Position at UN After Resolution

Hidayat Nur Wahid, commonly known as HNW, referred to a recent UN General Assembly resolution concerning Palestine’s participation in the 81st session of the General Assembly. A total of 152 countries voted against the United States' decision to prevent the Palestinian delegation from attending the session, while 3 countries voted against the resolution and 4 abstained.

"The growing support for Palestine’s presence at the UN has also been welcomed by the Arab League and, of course, by all of us. Hopefully, this will strengthen efforts to help liberate the Palestinian people," he said in a press statement, as quoted by mpr.go.id in Jakarta on Sunday, September 20, 2026.

HNW further emphasized the need to strengthen Palestine’s position at the UN. That move allows Palestinian representatives to officially present facts on the ground and freely defend their position in international forums and end humanitarian crimes.

The effort gained significant momentum in September 2024, when, during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, the Palestinian delegation was granted additional participation rights, including the right to sit among member states and submit proposals and amendments.

Moreover, approximately 157 UN member states have recognized Palestine, which, in his view, means that Palestine should be granted full UN membership soon, rather than continuing to hold its current status as a non-member observer state. "We must continue to fight for this together," he said.

HNW also welcomed the decision by 12 European and North American countries to introduce trade sanctions or restrictions on goods originating from illegal Israeli settlements in Palestine. He hoped that more countries around the world, including Arab and Muslim-majority nations, would follow suit.
