RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to Indonesia Tanya Dimitrova unveiled a bas-relief of Bulgarian national hero Vasil Levski as a symbol of friendship and shared values between Bulgaria and Indonesia. Tanya Dimitrova said Levski’s struggle for dignity and freedom reflected values that are also deeply held by the Indonesian people.

"Because of his fight for dignity, for freedom, the same values as Indonesia has, and all the Indonesians have in their hearts, this is our bridge for our friendship and for our future together," Tanya said during the unveiling ceremony of the bas-relief of Vasil Levski at the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Jakarta on Saturday, September 12, 2026.

She said Levski’s values and legacy serve as a bridge to strengthen friendship and create opportunities for closer cooperation and stronger ties between the two countries in the future.

Meanwhile, Counselor and Head of the Economic Office of the Embassy of Bulgaria Daniel Dobrev said that if Vasil Levski were alive today, he would convey a message about the importance of freedom and everyone’s right to think and realize their ideas.

"If Vasilevskiy was alive, he can talk that everybody has a right to liberty. Everybody has a right to freedom. So don't stop people to think," Daniel said.

He added that Levski’s spirit also taught people to respect one another while appreciating and preserving their respective national identities.

"Respect everybody, but respect first of all you and your national identity," he said.

The unveiling of the bas-relief is part of the Bulgarian Embassy’s efforts in Jakarta to introduce the legacy and struggle of Vasil Levski, while strengthening the longstanding friendship between the peoples of Bulgaria and Indonesia.
