RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Marking the International Day to Protect Education from Attack on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, the Qatari Embassy in Jakarta called for stronger collective action to safeguard schools, teachers, and students in crisis‑affected regions.
In its official statement, the embassy reaffirmed support for the global #UniteToProtect campaign, stressing the importance of education as a lifeline in times of uncertainty. Ambassador Sultan bin Mubarak Saad Al‑Dosari underscored that education must remain a priority.
“Let us make education our priority and protect it from all threats. Education will stand firm when we uphold every child’s right to learn,” he said, as quoted by Antara.
The appeal was directed at governments, international organizations, humanitarian partners, educators, and civil society to unite in strengthening education systems.
Echoing this message, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani emphasized that education is not only a human right but also a fundamental pillar for societal progress. “We remain committed to supporting and protecting the rights of children and youth to access safe, quality education, whatever the challenges,” he stated.
Qatar highlighted its ongoing initiatives through the Education Above All Foundation, which provides learning opportunities for disadvantaged children and youth affected by crises worldwide.
This year’s commemoration carried the theme Human Resilience: Can Education Survive Attacks? -- focusing on the role of students, teachers, families, and communities in sustaining education amid conflict. It also stressed the importance of technology and remote learning when schools are destroyed or inaccessible.
The embassy noted that protecting education must go hand in hand with adherence to international humanitarian law, justice enforcement, and accountability for those responsible for attacks on the sector. ***
