RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia and Kuwait are set to deepen cooperation in Islamic education, with Kuwait announcing plans to establish a university in West Java.

The initiative was discussed during a meeting between Indonesian Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar and Kuwait’s Humanitarian Delegation representative Jassem Al Nouri at Jakarta’s Istiqlal Mosque on Friday, September 4, 2026.

Minister Nasaruddin emphasized that Indonesia and Kuwait share longstanding diplomatic and historical ties, reinforced by common Islamic values.

“These shared values are a vital foundation for expanding collaboration, especially in education. Our relations are close not only formally, but also spiritually and psychologically,” he said, as quoted on the ministry’s official website.

The minister welcomed Kuwait’s plan to build a higher education institution in Indonesia, pledging full support. He also highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation in Islamic education and religious outreach.

Jassem Al Nouri expressed appreciation for Indonesia’s warm reception and reaffirmed Kuwait’s readiness to collaborate with the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

“We intend to establish a university in Indonesia, likely in West Java, and we look forward to the minister’s support,” he said.

The meeting underscored both nations’ commitment to advancing educational and religious cooperation, while reinforcing the broader partnership between Indonesia and Kuwait. ***
