Prabowo Reaffirms Russia as an Important Partner for Indonesia

RRI.CO.ID, Vladivostok - Indonesian President, Prabowo Subianto has reaffirmed the importance of Russia as a key partner in strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation across various fields. Prabowo made the statement during a meeting with Russian President, Vladimir Putin at a luncheon in Vladivostok on Thursday, September 3, 2026.

He expressed his appreciation for President Putin’s warm welcome and hospitality, while highlighting the deep historical ties between Indonesia and Russia that have spanned more than five decades. He said bilateral relations have continued to grow and have now been elevated to a strategic partnership.

“For Indonesia, Russia is a very important partner. That is why we are proud and pleased that our relations were elevated to a strategic partnership last year,” Prabowo said.

The President said the strengthening of bilateral ties is also reflected in growing economic and trade cooperation. He emphasized Indonesia’s readiness to further expand cooperation with Russia in various areas that can deliver mutual benefits for both countries.

Prabowo’s presence in Vladivostok also reflects Indonesia’s commitment to further strengthening relations with Russia. He said the 11th Eastern Economic Forum has significant potential to serve as a bridge for cooperation and connectivity in the region.

“This forum has great potential to serve as a bridge for cooperation and connectivity in our region,” he said.

Prabowo also highlighted that Indonesia and Russia are both Pacific nations. As an archipelagic country, Indonesia views connectivity and maritime cooperation as important elements in strengthening bilateral ties. The Indonesian government remains committed to expanding cooperation across various fields for the mutual benefit of both countries.
