President Prabowo Departs for Russia to Attend the 11th Eastern Economic Forum

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto departed for Vladivostok, Russia, on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, to attend the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) as a "main guest of honor". According to Indonesia’s Presidential Secretariat on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, Prabowo and his delegation take off from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta at 23:20 local time.

The EEF is an annual economic forum organized by Russia to promote investment in the country’s Far East region. Held annually since 2015, except the 2020 edition which was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s EEF is being held at Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) in Vladivostok.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, said Prabowo’s attendance reflects the increasingly close relationship between Indonesia and Russia, while also demonstrating Indonesia’s growing strategic importance in Asia-Pacific and the world. He also said that Prabowo is attending at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"President Putin specifically invited President Prabowo as the main guest of honor at the EEF. This reflects the close relationship between Indonesia and Russia, which continues to be developed and strengthened through direct diplomacy between the two leaders," Teddy said in a statement.

"This is the second time President Prabowo has been invited as a guest of honor at an international economic forum organized by Russia, following his attendance last year at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF)," he added.

Teddy further said Russia regards Indonesia as an important and strategic partner in Asia-Pacific. He said Indonesia is also viewed as an ASEAN member with an important role, as well as a leading representative of the Global South and the Muslim world.

"This demonstrates Indonesia’s strategic position in global affairs," he said.

Teddy also said that Prabowo’s presence in Vladivostok would be used to promote various forms of bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Russia. He noted cooperation in the economy, trade, investment, energy, and other strategic sectors.

"Indonesia’s foreign policy remains free and active. President Prabowo is building good relations with all countries, expanding friendships, while also ensuring that Indonesian diplomacy delivers concrete benefits for the national interest and the welfare of the people," Teddy said, reiterating the nation's long-standing foreign policy.

Earlier, Russian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sergey Tolchenov, mentioned the 11th EEF, and he expects bilateral agreements will be announced soon. He hoped the forum could expand relations between both countries, particularly in several sectors.

"We expect to have a high-ranking Indonesian delegation at this forum, and we hope for productive contacts and discussions on how to further promote our bilateral cooperation with Indonesia, mostly in economic, investment, and trade," Tolchenov said during a press briefing at his official residence in Jakarta last week.
