MUI Secretary-General Calls for Global Unity to Support Palestinians

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Secretary-General of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Buya Amirsyah Tambunan, has called for global unity to support Palestinian independence and reject all forms of oppression against the Palestinian people.

Buya Amirsyah made the call while attending the 2026 Al-Aqsa Mosque and Palestine Symposium (SIMATINA 2026), themed “Resisting the Desecration of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Occupation of Palestine,” held in Jakarta, Monday, August 31, 2026.

As quoted from mui.or.id, the event was held with the support of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency of the Indonesian House of Representatives (BKSAP DPR RI), as well as chairpersons of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) and the House of Representatives (DPR RI). The event also featured the launch of the Asia-Pacific Coalition for Quds and Palestine (APCQP) Headquarters.

On the occasion, Amirsyah praised the organization of SIMATINA 2026, saying that it served as an important moment to strengthen attention to Al-Aqsa Mosque as well as the struggle of the Palestinian people.

In line with this concern, Buya Amirsyah also highlighted the role of Islamic philanthropy activists in providing support to the Palestinian people. He said such concern should be translated into concrete action through material assistance, as well as moral and spiritual support.

“Through philanthropy, we demonstrate our enduring compassion for our brothers and sisters (in Palestine). We provide material assistance, perhaps in the form of food and beverages, and going forward, we may also provide assistance for the construction of mosques,” he conveyed.

Furthermore, the Secretary-General linked concern for Palestine with gratitude for Indonesia’s independence, which has now reached its 81st anniversary. He said Indonesia’s experience of independence should also serve as a reminder that there are still nations that have yet to fully experience freedom.

“Indonesia has been independent for 81 years. This means that we should be grateful for the blessing of our independence. But there are still our brothers and sisters who have not yet achieved full independence,” Amirsyah said.

He also stressed that the Palestinian issue is not solely a matter concerning Muslims, but is fundamentally a humanitarian issue. Therefore, he urged people around the world to unite in rejecting all forms of oppression. “Palestine can only achieve independence if the world unites, a world that stands for humanity,” he stressed.
