Russia-Indonesia Fosters Cultural Ties Through “Chebi-2” Film Screening

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Russian House in Jakarta held a screening of the Russian family film Chebi-2 (2025) on Friday, August 28, 2026, to commemorate Russian Cinema Day. The event was organized with the participation of the Embassy of Russia in Indonesia and was part of the 11th All-Russian “Night of Cinema” campaign.

Russian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sergei Tolchenov, said Chebi-2 highlights the values of friendship, kindness, and caring for loved ones that have been associated with the character Cheburashka for generations of Russians.

“For several generations of Russians, Cheburashka has been associated with childhood, friendship, kindness, and caring for loved ones,” Tolchenov said in his remarks.

According to him, the successful return of the Cheburashka character to the big screen shows that these values remain relevant today. He also welcomed the opportunity to introduce the story to Indonesian audiences.

He expressed hope that the film screening would not only entertain the audience but also introduce them to contemporary Russian culture and the traditions that continue to inspire Russian society.

“I hope that the film will not only bring joy to the audience, but will also allow them to become a little better acquainted with contemporary Russian culture and the traditions that continue to inspire it,” he said.

The screening was attended by staff members of Russian missions in Indonesia and their families, representatives of Indonesian society, as well as members of the cultural and educational communities and the media.

Chebi-2 also received a warm response from the audience. The family story portrayed in the film highlights the importance of friendship, mutual support, and caring for loved ones.

Cheburashka 2 (Chebi-2) tells the story of Cheburashka as he begins to grow up and become more independent while living with Gena. After accidentally ruining Sonya’s birthday party, Cheburashka, Sonya, and Grisha run away to the mountains, where they encounter a series of adventures.

The film explores themes of friendship, family, mutual support, and the importance of understanding one another. The film was widely released in cinemas in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, and surrounding countries starting January 1, 2026.

In addition to the film screening, the event featured an exhibition titled Crimean Gold: “Civilized” Europe Plunders Russian Treasures, prepared by the Russian Military Historical Society.
