RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia and Japan officially strengthened their strategic partnership through the groundbreaking ceremony for the J Trust Bank City Tower in Jakarta on Thursday, August 27, 2026. This concrete step sends a positive signal to global investors regarding the resilience of Indonesia’s economy, which recorded 5.45 percent growth in the first half of 2026.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, stated that this project reaffirms Japan’s position as one of the country’s most important economic partners. “Indonesia needs more investment to create jobs. Japan is one of Indonesia’s key economic partners. Japan plays a strategic role in trade, investment, technology, financing, and human resource development,” he said.

The foreign investment sector recorded a positive contribution from Japan of US$1.9 billion, or 6.2 percent of total foreign investment in the first half of 2026. This trend of increasing bilateral cooperation builds on the achievements of 2025, which saw Japanese investment in Indonesia reach US$3.1 billion.

The strengthening of business ties between the two countries was further solidified during Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to Tokyo in March 2026. The business forum resulted in the signing of several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) for investment commitments totaling US$23.63 billion.

The Indonesian government is optimistic that this new financial infrastructure will spur sustainable cross-border business growth. “Indonesia doesn’t just want foreign investment; we also want investors to grow alongside Indonesia. We also hope that J Trust can strengthen financing for the productive sector and SMEs. I am confident that J Trust can serve as a bridge connecting the business communities of Indonesia and Japan,” he emphasized.

Support for the domestic business climate is also being strengthened through cooperation with the Government’s Task Force for the Acceleration of Strategic Programs (Satgas P2SP). The government continues to implement measures to remove bottlenecks to ensure a transparent, conducive, and responsive investment climate for international businesses.

Haryo Limanseto, spokesperson for the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, confirmed the high success rate of Japanese investment ventures in Indonesia based on the latest JETRO survey data. “The construction of the J Trust Bank City Tower supports the development of Jakarta as one of Indonesia’s economic hubs. This project, which embraces the concept of transit-oriented development (TOD), is expected to have a positive impact on the overall development of the area,” he said.
