Russia Signals Possible Agreements with Indonesia at Eastern Economic Forum

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Sergei Tolchenov has hinted that new agreements between Jakarta and Russia may be signed during the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok, scheduled for September 1–4, 2026.

Ambassador Tolchenov, however, urged patience until official announcements are made.

“I have heard about these agreements, but please be patient for official information, the possibility is that several cooperation contracts will be signed on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum,” he said during a media briefing in Jakarta on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

He revealed that preparations are underway for a potential meeting between President Vladimir Putin and President Prabowo Subianto during the annual economic forum. If confirmed, the announcement is expected from the Presidential Secretariat of Indonesia and the Russian Presidential Administration later this week.

Ambassador Tolchenov noted that both leaders maintain regular communication, which he hopes will help finalize agreements and deliver tangible outcomes in Vladivostok.

“If the meeting in Vladivostok takes place, the two leaders will continue discussions on efforts to enhance cooperation in all fields, including grain, oil, and fertilizer supplies,” he explained.

Earlier, in his congratulatory message for Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day on August 17, President Putin expressed hope to meet President Prabowo at the EEF. The two leaders last met in Moscow in April, holding a five-hour discussion on strengthening bilateral cooperation in sectors such as economy, energy, space, agriculture, industry, and pharmaceuticals. ***
