Indonesia-Australia to Hold 2+2 Meeting in Melbourne

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta — Indonesia and Australia will hold the 10th 2+2 meeting between their Foreign and Defence Ministers on August 26, 2026, in Melbourne, Australia. Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, Yvonne Mewengkang, said the meeting would serve as an important forum for the two countries to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and various issues of mutual concern.
“The 2+2 meeting is an important forum for Indonesia and Australia to discuss the strengthening of bilateral relations as well as various bilateral issues,” Yvonne said during a press briefing in Jakarta on Thursday, August 20, 2026.
She explained that the meeting would discuss several issues, including defence and security cooperation, particularly the implementation of the Treaty on Common Security. The two countries will also discuss conflict prevention, maritime security, economic resilience, and supply chain strengthening.
According to her, the discussions are expected to further strengthen cooperation and security between the two countries.
“In general, the discussions will cover issues related to the implementation of the Treaty on Common Security, defence and security cooperation, conflict prevention and maritime security, as well as economic resilience and supply chains,” she said.
Previously, at the Indonesia-Australia 2+2 Meeting in Canberra on August 28, 2025, the Indonesia's Defence Minister, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin emphasized the importance of strengthening leaders-to-leaders and people-to-people ties, as well as defence cooperation, including joint exercises, counterterrorism, and the possibility of trilateral cooperation between Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and Australia.
The Australian Defence Ministry expressed support for strengthening defence cooperation, including the Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA), information sharing, defence industry cooperation, and maritime security. Both countries also stressed the importance of respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity in maintaining bilateral relations.
