Indonesian Embassy in Baku Celebrates the 81st Independence Day

RRI.CO.ID, Baku - The spirit of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day was also felt in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Indonesian Embassy in Baku held a series of events to celebrate independence while strengthening unity among Indonesian citizens and ties with the local community.

According to an official statement, under the theme of "Indonesia Berdaulat, Adil, dan Makmur" or "Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia," the main celebration featured a Red-and-White flag-raising ceremony at the Indonesian Embassy in Baku on Monday, 17 August 2026.

The Indonesian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Azerbaijan, Berlian Helmy, served as the presiding officer. Indonesian students currently studying in Azerbaijan were assigned to the flag-raising team.

The ceremony was held solemnly, featuring a moment of silence, the reading of the Proclamation of Independence, Pancasila, and the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution. The event concluded with a joint prayer and the cutting of an Independence Day cake as an expression of gratitude.

The celebration was attended not only by embassy staff, but also by members of the Indonesian diaspora, professionals, students, and several local partners or diplomatic partners.

The Independence Day festivities had already begun on Saturday, when the Indonesian Embassy organized various traditional Independence Day competitions for both adults and children. Besides preserving Indonesia’s Independence Day traditions, the activities also provided an opportunity for Indonesians living far from home to foster a sense of togetherness. Prizes were presented to the winners after the flag ceremony.

The series of events ended with a gathering featuring a variety of Indonesian dishes, including nasi tumpeng, grilled fish, bakso, karedok, fried chicken, and traditional snacks.

Through the commemoration of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day, the Indonesian Embassy in Baku aims to continuously strengthen unity among Indonesians in Azerbaijan while encouraging the diaspora to contribute to Indonesia’s progress, sovereignty, and prosperity on the international stage.
