RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Russia marked Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day with a message of congratulations from President Vladimir Putin to President Prabowo Subianto, underscoring Moscow’s commitment to strengthening ties with Jakarta.
The greeting carried not only diplomatic goodwill but also a broader emphasis on global security and stability. President Putin noted on Monday, August 17, 2026, that relations between the two nations continue to develop positively, reflecting productive cooperation across various fields.
He stressed that the partnership aligns with the interests of both peoples and contributes to reinforcing peace in the Asia‑Pacific and beyond.
“Relations between Moscow and Jakarta are developing very well, as reflected in our productive interaction. I am confident these relations fully align with the interests of the peoples of our two friendly nations and contribute to strengthening security and stability in the Asia‑Pacific region and worldwide,” the message read, as quoted by Antara.
The message came a day after the Russian Embassy in Jakarta expressed condolences for the victims of the 7.7‑magnitude earthquake that struck East Nusa Tenggara on Saturday morning, August 15, 2026.
“We extend our deepest sympathy to the families and relatives of those who lost their lives. We hope life in the affected areas can return to normal soon,” the embassy stated through its official Instagram account, on Sunday. ***
