RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Embassy in Ankara marked the nation’s 81st Independence Day with Festival Merah Putih (Red and White Festival), a vibrant cultural showcase that also celebrated friendship between Indonesia and Türkiye.
Held on Saturday, August 15, the event drew more than 1,000 participants, including Indonesians, Turkish citizens, foreign ambassadors, and members of the diplomatic corps.
“Festival Merah Putih is not only a celebration of Indonesia’s independence, but also of friendship,” Ambassador Achmad Rizal Purnama said in a statement, as quoted by Antara.
He added that the festival brought Indonesia to the heart of Ankara, while reminding audiences of the nation’s journey toward Indonesia Maju 2045.
The festival featured traditional games, Indonesian bazaars, music, and dance performances, presenting cultural diversity from Ribang Kemambang of South Sumatra and Kembang Jatoh of Jakarta to Bali’s iconic Kecak dance. Local flavor was added with performances by Karisik Band, Indonesian students from Sakarya, and artists Echa and Arumi.
Door prizes ranging from electronics to round‑trip tickets between Türkiye and Indonesia heightened excitement, while traditional competitions engaged children and adults alike, fostering values of togetherness and cultural exchange.
Inclusivity was underscored by the participation of a disability group from Yalova, reflecting the festival’s spirit of unity beyond differences. Organizers coordinated with local authorities to ensure safety and order throughout the event.
Through culture, music, food, and shared experiences, Festival Merah Putih highlighted the warmth of Indonesia-Türkiye relations. At 81 years of independence, the celebration served as a reminder that freedom is sustained through unity, diversity, friendship, and optimism for Indonesia’s future. ***
