RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – As Indonesia marks its 81st year of independence, Swedish Ambassador Daniel Blockert highlighted the country’s democratic resilience, describing its journey as both challenging and successful.

His remarks came after attending President Prabowo Subianto’s annual state address at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Friday, August 14, 2026.

“Indonesia’s path to independence and democracy, though demanding, has been very successful,” Ambassador Blockert said, as quoted by Antara, noting that the country’s democratic institutions continue to grow stronger.

He also praised the state of bilateral relations, emphasizing that cooperation between Indonesia and Sweden has been excellent, particularly under President Prabowo’s leadership, which prioritizes strengthening ties with partner nations.

Ambassador Blockert pointed out that Indonesia’s relationship with the European Union is also expected to expand across multiple sectors. He revealed that Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria will make a high‑level visit to Indonesia in September 2026, a move aimed at further deepening bilateral cooperation.

Reflecting on President Prabowo’s speech, Ambassador Blockert commended the president for presenting a comprehensive overview of government achievements, including the Free Nutritious Meals program. He also respected President Prabowo’s willingness to acknowledge shortcomings in existing programs, calling it a sign of transparency and accountability.

The ambassador extended congratulations to the Indonesian people ahead of Independence Day, expressing hope for continued progress. “I wish Indonesia well on its Independence Day and hope the country achieves significant advances in the years ahead,” he said.

The Annual Session of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) and the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) were attended by President Prabowo, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, cabinet members, foreign envoys, and former national leaders.

The event set the stage for Indonesia’s Independence Day celebrations under the theme “Indonesia Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous.”

By framing democracy as Indonesia’s enduring strength, Ambassador Blockert’s remarks positioned the country not only as a resilient nation but also as a partner with growing influence in Europe and beyond. ***
