Indonesian FM: One Indonesian Crew Member Killed in MV Tihamah Attack

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Muscat, continues to coordinate with relevant parties following an attack on the cargo vessel MV Tihamah near the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, off the coast of Yemen, on August 11, 2026.

Director for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heni Hamidah, said the attack killed six people, including four crew members, one of whom was an Indonesian citizen, as well as two members of the rescue team.

“The attack on the cargo vessel MV Tihamah near the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, off the coast of Yemen, killed six people. The six victims comprised four crew members, including one Indonesian citizen, and two members of the rescue team,” Heni said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

In addition to the fatalities, the attack also injured 10 people. The MV Tihamah was carrying 11 crew members, comprising eight Pakistani nationals and three Indonesian citizens. Based on communication between the Indonesian Embassy in Muscat and the surviving Indonesian crew members, the incident occurred while the vessel was docked at Bab Al Mandab Port in Murad, Yemen.

Of the three Indonesian crew members on board, one sustained minor injuries from shrapnel and did not require hospitalization. Another Indonesian crew member was injured and remains hospitalized in stable condition.

“Of the three Indonesian crew members, one sustained minor injuries from shrapnel and did not require hospital treatment, while another was injured and is still receiving treatment at a hospital in stable condition,” Heni said.

Earlier, the third Indonesian crew member was reported missing. Several sources said the crew member was among those killed. The latest developments have since confirmed that one Indonesian citizen was among the fatalities.

The Indonesian Embassy in Muscat continues to coordinate with the Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant parties to obtain further information regarding the victims and the handling of the incident.

The embassy is also maintaining communication with the company and the surviving Indonesian crew members to monitor their condition and obtain the latest information regarding the incident.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Muscat continue to take the necessary measures to ensure protection for the affected Indonesian citizens, including facilitating medical treatment for the injured crew members and preparing arrangements for the safe return of the surviving Indonesians to Indonesia when conditions permit.

“The Indonesian Embassy also continues to communicate with the families of the affected Indonesian citizens and provide the necessary assistance and support,” the statement said.
