RRI.CO.ID, Amman – Indonesia has reaffirmed that violence committed by Israeli settlers and violations of international law in the Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, and the West Bank, must not be tolerated or normalized.

The statement was delivered by Indonesia's Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Arrmanatha Nasir, representing Foreign Minister Sugiono, at the Ministerial Meeting on Jerusalem held in Amman, Jordan, on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.

According to a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday, August 6, 2026, Arrmanatha reiterated Indonesia's support for the Hashemite Custodianship over the holy sites in Jerusalem, including Al-Haram Al-Sharif, as well as its continued support for an independent State of Palestine in accordance with international law.

He said the political landscape in the Middle East has changed significantly due to the expansion of illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank, Israel's military operations in Gaza, Syria, and Lebanon, as well as escalating tensions between the United States and Iran.

"Indonesia urges the international community to abandon old approaches, stop allowing Israel's violations to continue, and stop responding in a fragmented manner. Division is a loophole that Israel has consistently exploited," Arrmanatha said.

During the meeting, Indonesia proposed five concrete measures: building a unified international strategy, upholding international law and the rulings of the International Court of Justice, expanding international recognition of the State of Palestine, strengthening protection for the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, and supporting Gaza's reconstruction, Palestinian national unity, and the mandate of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

Arrmanatha also stressed that the Palestinian cause is not solely an issue for Muslims. According to him, support for Palestine also comes from countries across the Global South, while several countries that have traditionally maintained close relations with Israel have imposed sanctions on Israeli settlers in the West Bank.

The Ministerial Meeting in Amman aimed to strengthen the international response to Israel's violations in the Palestinian territories, including actions affecting the status quo of Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. The meeting was attended by foreign ministers, deputy foreign ministers, and senior officials from Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Egypt, Türkiye, Tunisia, Somalia, Pakistan, Morocco, Palestine, Malaysia, Qatar, as well as the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States.

The meeting adopted a Joint Statement supporting the strengthening of Palestinian institutions in Jerusalem, rejecting the relocation of diplomatic missions to Jerusalem as a violation of international law, and committing to media campaigns to raise global awareness of Israel's actions and their impact on regional and international peace and security.

Indonesia's participation in the meeting reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, upholding international law, and promoting a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
