RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s role as a major Muslim‑majority nation is being highlighted in global discussions on Kashmir, with Pakistan encouraging Jakarta’s greater involvement in advancing the implementation of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.**

Speaking at Kashmir Day hosted by the Pakistani Embassy in Jakarta on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, Ambassador Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri noted that Indonesia, alongside the wider international community, has an important responsibility in supporting respect for UNSC resolutions.

“As a large country, and also the world’s biggest Muslim‑majority nation, it is important for Indonesia, like other members of the international community, to contribute to the implementation of UNSC resolutions,” he said, as quoted by Antara.

Ambassador Chaudhri referred to 18 UNSC resolutions calling for an impartial plebiscite to allow the people of Jammu and Kashmir to determine their future, stressing that their implementation is vital to uphold a rules‑based international order.

He further encouraged Indonesia and the global community to engage India constructively on human rights in Jammu and Kashmir and to support commitments under the UNSC framework.

The ambassador also underscored the urgency of addressing human rights concerns and called for the release of Kashmiri leaders who remain imprisoned.

The Kashmir conflict between Pakistan and India has persisted since 1947, with tensions flaring again in April 2025.
