RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's Vice President, Gibran Rakabuming received a visit from Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Civil Service of Cambodia, Hun Many, at the Vice Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. The meeting discussed several strategic agendas in the bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Cambodia, including bureaucratic reform, youth and sports, and the handling of human trafficking related to online fraud practices.
According to the country's Vice Presidential Secretariat, the meeting is part of the Indonesian government's efforts to strengthen partnerships with ASEAN member countries through closer and mutually beneficial cooperation. It said this aligns with President Prabowo Subianto's directive, which emphasized the importance of strengthening solidarity, dialogue, and collaboration among ASEAN countries to maintain stability and promote regional progress.
VP Gibran encouraged the continued development of relations between Indonesia and Cambodia through "concrete and responsive" cooperation. This should addresses the needs of both countries, including strengthening governance and bureaucratic reform.
"Cooperation between the two countries in the field of bureaucratic reform can certainly be further deepened, particularly regarding digital transformation. Bureaucratic reform is one of the President's priority programs," Gibran said.
"Because we want to provide the best service to the public. We want a more agile, corruption-free, and transparent bureaucracy," he added.
In addition to bureaucratic reform, Indonesia's Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Muhammad Anis Matta, revealed that Gibran and Hun Many also discussed strengthening cooperation in the fields of youth and sports. This collaboration is a crucial instrument for strengthening people-to-people ties between the two countries and encouraging the development of the potential of the younger generation.
"Then secondly, there is the issue of cooperation in youth and sports," Anis said after the meeting.
One focus of sports cooperation is the development of sports for people with disabilities. Minister of Youth and Sports, Erick Thohir, stated that Hun Many is deeply committed to the development of those sports, including enhancing the capacity of Cambodian athletes.
During the discussion, Cambodia also expressed its desire to improve the capabilities of its athletes through the sports facilities already built in Surakarta, Central Java. These facilities are considered to be of excellent quality and have the potential to become a platform for sports collaboration between Indonesia and Cambodia.
"The Vice Prime Minister is eager for them to have the opportunity to improve their athletes' capabilities at the facilities already built in Solo. They are among the best in Southeast Asia," Erick said.
Another agenda discussed by the two was the handling of human trafficking related to online scams in Cambodia. It is part of the ongoing cooperation between Indonesia and Cambodia, particularly in efforts to provide protection to Indonesian citizens.
"This is the third discussion, but it's an ongoing discussion regarding the handling of human trafficking related to scams in Cambodia," Anis said.
Through the meeting, the secretariat claimed Gibran continued to encourage strengthening relations between Indonesia and Cambodia through concrete, mutually beneficial, and community-oriented cooperation. Strengthening bureaucratic reform, youth and sports development, and protecting Indonesian citizens are part of efforts to strengthen the Indonesia-Cambodia partnership while also strengthening cooperation within the ASEAN region.
