RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia is strengthening its role as a center for aviation human resource development in the Asia-Pacific through the successful hosting of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Government Safety Inspector Airworthiness Air Operator and Approved Maintenance Organization Certification (GSI-AIR) Course.

The 15-day international training, held in collaboration with ICAO, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and Boeing, brought together 16 participants from 10 Asia-Pacific countries, including Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Vietnam, Timor-Leste, Fiji, Laos, India, and Hong Kong.

Head of the Curug Aviation Training Center (BP3 Curug), Sukahir, emphasized the strategic importance of the program.

“This training aims to enhance the competence, qualifications, and standardization of airworthiness inspectors in the Asia-Pacific region so they can carry out certification and civil aviation safety oversight in line with international standards," he explained, on Saturday, August 1, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Participants received comprehensive instruction on certification processes for air operators and maintenance organizations, including the Five-Phase Certification Process, field inspection techniques, and capacity building through the Train the Trainer Program (TTP).

“The commitment and active participation of all participants reflect a strong dedication to strengthening aviation safety culture in their respective countries," Sukahir noted.

Acting Head of Training at the Ministry’s Human Resource Development Center, Ratri, highlighted the broader impact. “This training not only improves technical competence but also strengthens professional networks among aviation safety inspectors in the Asia-Pacific," she said.

The program reinforces Indonesia’s compliance with Law No. 1/2009 on Aviation and Government Regulation No. 51/2012 on Transportation Human Resources, both of which mandate continuous capacity building to support aviation safety.

Indonesia’s commitment will continue with two more international courses scheduled for August and September 2026. The initiatives are part of Indonesia’s effort to meet global standards while bolstering its candidacy for a seat on the ICAO Council. ***
