RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is expanding economic cooperation with the United States by exploring partnerships in artificial intelligence (AI), aviation, mining, defense, food, and other strategic sectors to accelerate technology transfer, attract investment, and strengthen domestic industries.

The initiative was discussed during a meeting between Indonesian Ambassador to the United States Indroyono Soesilo and representatives of major American companies in Washington on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, organized by the US-ASEAN Business Council.

“Indonesia-United States economic relations should not stop at trade figures,” Ambassador Indroyono said in a written statement issued by the Indonesian Embassy in Washington, D.C., on Friday, July 31, as quoted by Antara.

“More importantly, trade and investment should create added value, strengthen national industries, generate jobs, improve the quality of human resources, and bring new technologies to Indonesia,” he added.

The meeting highlighted opportunities involving companies such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Freeport-McMoRan, Cargill, Caterpillar, PepsiCo, NVIDIA, Walmart Foundation, and Chubb.

Indonesia Investment Promotion Center (IIPC) New York Director Tessal Maharizky Febrian said that US investment in Indonesia reached about USD 1.7 billion in the first half of 2026, while bilateral trade totaled USD 43.8 billion in 2025.

Indroyono said Indonesia's large market, strategic resources, and digital transformation offer strong potential for expanding partnerships, but noted that improving intellectual property protection, regulatory consistency, logistics, and workforce quality remains essential.

US business representatives also welcomed Indonesia's recent business licensing reforms under Government Regulation No. 28/2025, describing them as a positive step toward improving the investment climate. ***
