RRI.CO.ID, Manila – Indonesia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, discussed strengthening cooperation on environmental protection, maritime aquaculture, and energy transition with Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide. In statement received in Jakarta on Sunday, 26 July 2026, the meeting took place on the sidelines of the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM), Post-Ministerial Conferences (PMC), and Related Meetings in Manila, the Philippines, on Thursday, July 23, 2026.

During the meeting, the two ministers agreed to enhance cooperation in the aquaculture sector, including through the development of technology and the adoption of sustainable fisheries practices. Sugiono said Indonesia is also seeking to strengthen its partnership with Norway on energy transition in line with the country's agenda to achieve energy and fertilizer self-sufficiency.

"In this regard, Indonesia continues to promote cooperation with Norway in investment, innovation, and technology development," Sugiono said. Sugiono also expressed appreciation for the Indonesia–Norway partnership in the forestry sector, which he said has made tangible contributions to forest protection and climate action.

The two countries also explored opportunities to utilize satellite imagery licenses to support forest monitoring, natural resource management, and sustainable development.

Meanwhile, Espen Barth Eide underscored Indonesia's important role as one of the world's "lungs" and a strategic partner in global efforts to address climate change.

The two ministers also reaffirmed the importance of strengthening multilateralism and supporting reform of the United Nations (UN) system.

Sugiono emphasized that Indonesia will continue to advocate for comprehensive multilateral reform to make the UN more responsive, effective, and capable of addressing global challenges.
