Central Java, Iran Explore Strategic Partnership Across Sectors

RRI.CO.ID, Semarang - Central Java and the Islamic Republic of Iran explored a strategic partnership across multiple sectors to strengthen economic cooperation. The discussion took place in Semarang on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
The meeting was held between Central Java Governor, Ahmad Luthfi and Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi. Both sides discussed cooperation in technology, investment, education, healthcare, agriculture, trade, and Muslim tourism development.
Governor Ahmad Luthfi said Iran's technological advancements could provide valuable knowledge for Central Java. He highlighted dairy farming, agricultural drones, medical technology, and education as potential collaboration areas.
"If their technology is more advanced and can be applied in Central Java, it will certainly increase our people's productivity. That is what we want to learn." he said.
Luthfi also proposed strategic investment opportunities in tourism, green energy, waste-to-energy projects, green hospitals, integrated fisheries, and salt processing. He said Central Java's strong Muslim population could further support closer cooperation with Iran.
Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Indonesia Mohammad Boroujerdi said discussions on the Semarang-Yazd sister city initiative had progressed positively. He added Iran is ready to expand cooperation in education, science, technology, agriculture, livestock, food security, energy security, and religious tourism.
"Inshallah, after this visit to the central java, I am going to contact Iran and just find the counterpart of this precious province and we are going to make the connection between two provinces to, Inshallah, be witness for the more cooperation between the two countries." he said.
Boroujerdi also encouraged stronger economic cooperation between Indonesia and Iran, alongside existing cultural and political relations. He expressed optimism that regional partnerships would further strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.
