RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta- The Government of Indonesia has extended its heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Qatar following the passing of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who served as Emir of Qatar from 1995 to 2013.

In a statement posted on X on Sunday, 12 July 2026, Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed its sympathies to His Highness Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Al Thani family, and the Government and people of the State of Qatar over the loss of the former Qatari leader.

“The Government of the Republic of Indonesia extends its deepest condolences on the passing of His Highness, the Father Amir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani,” the ministry said in its statement.

The passing of Sheikh Hamad was confirmed by the Amiri Diwan, the administrative office of the Amir of Qatar, which announced that His Highness the Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, passed away on Sunday morning. In its statement, the Amiri Diwan prayed that Allah grant him mercy.

“With hearts steadfast in faith in Allah’s decree and destiny, the Amiri Diwan mourns the significant loss for the nation following the passing of His Highness the Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who passed away this morning at the age of nearly 74. May Allah have mercy on him,” the statement read.

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani is widely regarded as a key figure of modern Qatar. Although he handed over power to his son, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in 2013, he continued to remain influential over the country’s political and development agenda.

The Qatari government has declared four days of national mourning in honor of Sheikh Hamad. His funeral is scheduled to take place in Lusail on Sunday following the Maghrib prayer, while Amir Sheikh Tamim will receive condolences from heads of state, members of royal families, and the public from 13 to 15 July.
