RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Indonesian government has called on the United States (U.S.) and Iran to call for restraint and de-escalation following the ongoing exchange of attacks between the two countries, which has affected regional stability, particularly maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.

Spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yvonne Mewengkang said Indonesia is also urging both sides to prioritize dialogue, respect international law, and continue negotiations to ease tensions.

"Indonesia calls on all parties to continue exercising restraint, avoid actions that could further escalate the situation, pursue de-escalation, prioritize dialogue, respect international law, and continue the negotiation process," Yvonne said during a press briefing in Jakarta on Thursday.

According to Yvonne, Indonesia considers the peace process between the United States and Iran essential for maintaining regional stability and security, as well as preserving maritime security, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz. She stressed that Indonesia will continue encouraging both countries to pursue a peaceful resolution through dialogue and negotiations in accordance with international law.

"Indonesia also considers the peace process between the United States and Iran essential to maintaining regional stability and security, as well as regional peace, and restoring maritime security, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz," Yvonne added.

Earlier, on Tuesday, 7 July 2026, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that it had launched a series of strikes against approximately 80 military targets in Iran. Washington said the attacks were carried out in response to Iranian attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

The following day, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had launched missile and drone strikes against 85 U.S. military targets across the Middle East, including Salman Port, the headquarters of the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, and Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait.

Amid the escalating tensions, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday, 8 July 2026, that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) previously signed with Iran to end the conflict had ended.
