RRI.CO.ID, Genewa - The United Nations has deployed more than 1,000 international rescue personnel to support emergency response efforts following the devastating earthquake that struck Venezuela, as humanitarian assistance continues to increase for affected communities. The announcement was made by UN Secretary-General's Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric during a press briefing at the UN Headquarters on Friday, June 26, 2026.

Dujarric said that 30 urban search and rescue teams from various countries have been deployed to Venezuela, bringing together more than 1,600 personnel and 100 search dogs. He added that the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is supporting coordination efforts on the ground by facilitating information sharing and working with partners to ensure the effective deployment of international search and rescue teams.

"A total of 30 of these teams are deploying to Venezuela, with more than 1,600 personnel, 100 dogs, coming from a wide variety of countries,” he said according to the UN on Monday, June 29, 2026.

In addition, the UN has mobilized its disaster assessment teams together with a four-member operational support team, while several OCHA staff members are being deployed to reinforce humanitarian coordination in Venezuela. Dujarric also said that UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher has allocated 5 million US Dollar from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) to provide life-saving assistance, including healthcare, shelter, food, and clean water.

Meanwhile, the World Food Programme (WFP) has sufficient food stocks to support more than 10,000 families in Venezuela for two months. In addition, over 1,400 metric tons of relief supplies from partner organizations are ready for deployment from the WFP-managed UN Humanitarian Response Depot in Panama to the affected areas.

“Our colleagues at the World Food Program tell us that the first 72 hours are obviously critical for search and rescue efforts, but they're also critical for positioning food and other relief supplies that people will need in the coming days,” he said.

UNICEF has also allocated 2.5 million—including 1.5 million US Dollar from its internal resources and 1 million US Dollar from global humanitarian thematic funding—to support immediate emergency operations. Meanwhile, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) is expanding the distribution of core relief items by preparing shipments of tents, temporary housing units, mosquito nets, and solar lamps from its regional logistics hub in Panama.

Earlier, the Government of the Republic of Indonesia extended its deepest condolences to the Government and people of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela following the devastating earthquake that struck on June 24, 2026. Indonesia also expressed its solidarity and confidence in the resilience of the Venezuelan people as they work to recover and rebuild from the disaster.
