RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - United States Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau has concluded a diplomatic visit to Indonesia this week, anchoring an official Southeast Asian tour focused on expanding trade, scaling up renewable energy investment, and reinforcing maritime security partnerships.

The diplomatic engagement was confirmed by Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) Spokesperson Vahd Nabyl A. Mulachela, who noted that Deputy Foreign Minister Arif Havas Oegroseno formally received Deputy Secretary Landau in Jakarta on Friday, June 12, 2026.

“Both Deputy Foreign Ministers discussed a number of priority bilateral issues, including the digital economy, and encouraging the entry of US investors into Indonesia across various sectors” Vahd said in a written brief sent to reporters on Saturday, June 13, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

In addition to digital commerce, Landau and Oegroseno charted collaborative frameworks aimed at driving American venture capital into Indonesia's renewable energy infrastructure, advanced technology supply chains, and maritime safety initiatives.

Prior to his bilateral sitting with the Indonesian government, Deputy Secretary Landau held a high-level meeting with ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta.

According to an official communique released by ASEAN, the two leaders mapped out milestones to deepen the US-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP). Their discussions focused on preparing structural frameworks for two major upcoming milestones in 2027: the 50th Anniversary of the US-ASEAN Dialogue Relations and the 5th Anniversary of the CSP.

“Both parties also exchanged views regarding regional and global developments, as well as other issues of mutual concern,” the ASEAN Secretariat noted regarding the geopolitical exchange.

The US Department of State emphasized that Landau's multi-nation circuit—which spanned Singapore, Vietnam, and Indonesia from June 6 to June 13—serves as his inaugural official tour of Southeast Asia as Deputy Secretary. While in Hanoi, Landau delivered a keynote address at the high-level ASEAN Future Forum before flying to Jakarta to solidify business ties.

Washington underscored that the overarching objective of Landau's visit to Indonesia is to significantly deepen bilateral commercial ties and incentivize direct US private-sector investment, thereby advancing economic prosperity and supporting the strategic development priorities of both nations.

Beyond the conference rooms, the US diplomat took time to engage with Indonesia's rich cultural heritage. During his brief stay in the capital, Landau visited the National Museum of Indonesia (Museum Nasional) and the Textile Museum (Museum Tekstil), highlighting the deep cultural and historical ties that underpin the broader US-Indonesia strategic partnership. ***
