RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Government of Indonesia has extended its deepest condolences to the Government and people of France following the death of a peacekeeper and serious injuries sustained by others in an incident involving the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) on April 18, 2026. In an official statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, Indonesia stressed that the attack was unacceptable, especially as it occurred during a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.

“The attack, occurring during the 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, is unacceptable,” the statement said.

Indonesia also called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint, respect state sovereignty, and uphold international law, including international humanitarian law. The government further emphasized that ongoing negotiations and the ceasefire agreement must be fully respected.

“Ongoing negotiations and the ceasefire must be fully respected and not undermined by acts of violence that risk further escalation and endanger peacekeepers on the ground,” the ministry stated.

Furthermore, Indonesia expressed deep concern over the continued attacks against the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). It stressed that peacekeepers must never be targeted under any circumstances, and such acts may constitute war crimes.

Indonesia also conveyed its solidarity with France and other troop-contributing countries, reaffirming a shared commitment to strengthening the protection of UN peacekeeping personnel, in line with the Joint Statement on the Safety and Security of UN Personnel adopted on April 9, 2026.
