RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia and Switzerland are celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations by turning to culture as a bridge between societies, highlighted by the “Symphony of Friendship” concert held in Jakarta and set to continue in Switzerland.
At the anniversary event on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Swiss Ambassador to Indonesia Olivier Zehnder emphasized that beyond economic cooperation, stronger people-to-people connections should be the next focus.
“I will not talk about the economic side, but I believe relations between our societies can be further strengthened,” Zehnder said on Tuesday, April 7, as quoted by Antara.
He noted that Indonesia and Switzerland have collaborated across sectors such as trade, education and commodities for decades, but both countries should now intensify efforts in cultural and social exchanges.
Zehnder welcomed the involvement of Jakarta Concert Orchestra (JCO) and Batavia Madrigal Singers (BMS), which will also perform in Switzerland, giving Swiss audiences a deeper glimpse into Indonesian culture.
Meanwhile, Director for Europe II at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Punjul Setya Nugraha, said the initiative reflects a new image of Indonesia on the global stage, showcasing the country’s rich cultural diversity that blends modern and traditional elements.
“Throughout 2026, the Foreign Affairs Ministry has planned a series of activities aimed at strengthening relations between governments and societies,” Punjul said.
The “Symphony of Friendship,” conducted by Avip Priatna, is not only a concert but also a cultural diplomacy effort representing the multifaceted ties between the two nations.
The performance features orchestral arrangements of Indonesian regional songs, including Sik Sik Sibatumanikam (North Sumatra), Tak Tong Tong (West Sumatra), Bubuy Bulan (West Java), Ayo Mama (Maluku), Paris Barantai (Kalimantan), Tokecang (West Java), Benggong (Manggarai), and Lisol (North Sumatra).
The concert took place in Jakarta on April 7, 2026, and will be staged again in Basel, Switzerland, on April 17, 2026. ***
