RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is reinforcing safety measures for its peacekeeping forces in Lebanon as security concerns escalate, with military leadership ordering troops to take shelter in bunkers as a precautionary step following deadly attacks on its personnel.

House of Representatives Commission I Lawmaker Amelia Anggraini described the directive from Indonesian Military (TNI) Commander Gen. Agus Subiyanto as a necessary anticipatory move for tactical evacuation. She said such measures reflect a non-negotiable level of preparedness, especially in a volatile conflict zone.

“In a dynamic and high-risk conflict situation, swift decisions based on threat mitigation are part of the standard operating procedures that must be carried out,” Amelia said in a statement from Jakarta on Monday, April 6, 2026, as quoted by Antara, adding that when conflict escalation occurs, prioritizing troop safety through measured and timely actions is both appropriate and essential.

The move follows a series of attacks in southern Lebanon in late March that killed three Indonesian peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) -- a mission that has operated in southern Lebanon since 1978, underscoring the increasingly dangerous conditions faced by personnel on the ground.

The fallen soldiers were identified as Major Inf (Posthumous) Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, Sergeant Major (Posthumous) Muhammad Nur Ichwan, and Corporal (Posthumous) Farizal Rhomadhon. Each was posthumously promoted as a mark of respect, and their remains received full military honors upon arrival at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten.

Five other Indonesian personnel, Captain Sultan Wirdean Maulana, Corporal Rico Pramudia, Corporal Arif Kurniawan, Corporal Bayu Prakoso, and Cadet Deni Rianto, were also injured in a separate incident and are currently receiving medical treatment.

President Prabowo Subianto has strongly condemned the attacks, expressing condolences for the fallen soldiers and reaffirming Indonesia’s rejection of violence against peacekeepers. ***
