OJK and Health Ministry Reinforce Indonesia Health Insurance Ecosystem

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the Ministry of Health have officially joined forces to build a more integrated and cost-effective health insurance ecosystem. Signed on Thursday, September 3, in Jakarta, this strategic partnership aims to streamline medical services and lower healthcare expenses for the public.

This strategic move is realized through the establishment of the Task Force for Strengthening the Health Insurance Ecosystem, alongside the signing of a Cooperation Agreement between insurance companies and hospital networks. This synergy is designed to align coordination among guarantee providers to make national healthcare services far more efficient.

Chief Executive of Insurance, Guarantee, and Pension Fund Supervision at OJK, Ogi Prastomiyono, emphasized that this integration forms a vital foundation for the transformation of the healthcare industry. He conveyed that this collaboration will strengthen financial protection and medical services for the general public.

“This is part of the improvement and strengthening of our healthcare industry’s ecosystem. Including insurance companies, this marks the beginning of our transformation. How our health industry ecosystem will become healthier, stronger, and better able to protect the public,” Ogi said.

These supervision and encouragement efforts by OJK align with the government’s vision to create a sustainable medical financing system. Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, explained that strengthening coordination aims to reduce the direct financial burden currently borne by patients.

“The goal is to make health financing for the public and the state as affordable as possible, with the best possible results, and a sustainable ecosystem. So it can develop normally and sustainably,” Budi stated.

Through technical cooperation between five major insurance companies and seven primary hospital networks, administrative processes and service system standardization will be accelerated. This synergy between health policy and financial supervision is expected to realize a transparent, efficient, and sustainable insurance ecosystem.
