RRI.CO.ID, Surabaya - The Surabaya City Government is encouraging residents to diversify their protein intake by promoting brackish water fish as a nutritious food source. The initiative was announced by the city's Food Security and Agriculture Office in Surabaya, East Java, on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

The campaign forms part of the city's efforts to promote the Diverse, Nutritious, Balanced, and Safe (B2SA) dietary pattern. It also aims to strengthen household food security through healthier and more varied eating habits.

Head of the Surabaya Food Security and Agriculture Office, Nanik Sukristina, said residents should avoid relying on a single protein source. She encouraged families to include fish, eggs, and other nutritious local foods in their daily meals.

"The Surabaya City Government continues educating the public not to depend on only one protein source. We encourage people to utilize various animal-based proteins, such as fish, eggs, and other local foods with high nutritional value," Nanik said.

She explained that the campaign is carried out through several programs, including the B2SA Healthy Menu Competition, the Fish Consumption Promotion Movement (Gemarikan), and local food processing training.

According to her, brackish water fish are a practical protein source because they are nutritious and widely available. Supplies are supported by coastal areas and fisheries across East Java.

She added that Gemarikan encourages families to make fish part of their daily meals. The city government also expands access to nutritious food through its Affordable Food Movement, providing quality food commodities at accessible prices.

Through these initiatives, the Surabaya City Government hopes more residents will adopt healthier diets by utilizing local food resources. The policy also supports regional food security while promoting balanced nutrition for Indonesian families.
