RRI.CO.ID, Bali - The government is ready to connect green energy products derived from locally processed waste with large-scale industries as part of efforts to establish sustainable waste management. Minister of Environment and Head of the Environmental Control Agency (KLH/BPLH), Moh Jumhur Hidayat, said the government would help provide market access for regions capable of processing waste into alternative fuels.

At the Gema Santi Local Waste Processing Center (TOSS), waste is processed using pyrolysis technology, a process that heats waste in the absence of oxygen to produce alternative fuel for industrial use. The resulting products can be used as a substitute for diesel fuel, while compacted organic waste can be utilized as an alternative to coal.

Jumhur commended the Klungkung Regency Government for involving the private sector in waste management through the implementation of a circular economy approach.

“Here in Klungkung, for example, the local government has taken a good initiative to process its waste by applying the circular economy concept. This is a good practice,” Jumhur said while inspecting the Gema Santi Local Waste Processing Center (TOSS) in Klungkung Regency, Bali, Saturday, October 3, 2026.

According to him, one of the challenges in developing waste-derived energy in the regions is securing buyers. Therefore, KLH/BPLH will serve as a bridge between regions producing alternative fuels and industries seeking such energy sources.

“The government will step in if there are difficulties in finding buyers, and we will try to facilitate communication. At the same time, buyers have also approached us, asking where they can find products like these,” he said.

Jumhur said the development of waste-derived energy could also help industries reduce their dependence on fossil fuels while supporting emission reduction targets. To address the high distribution costs from Bali to industrial centers on Java, the government is encouraging several regencies to combine their waste processing operations to increase production volumes and reduce costs per unit.
