Bandung Strengthens Disaster Preparedness Through Evacuation Simulation

RRI.CO.ID, Bandung - Bandung is strengthening community disaster preparedness through an evacuation drill involving residents of Cingised public housing (rusunawa). The activity was held at Rusunawa Cingised, Bandung, on Sunday, 6 September 2026.

The simulation was organized by the Bandung Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) in Cisaranten Kulon. It aimed to improve residents' ability to respond and save themselves during disasters.

Head of the Bandung Regional Disaster Management Agency, Didi Ruswandi, said community capacity is crucial during disasters. He noted that greater public preparedness can increase people's ability to survive emergency situations.

“The more Bandung residents who have the capacity to save themselves, the better. Because 95 percent of people who survive disasters depend on community capacity,” Didi said.

The activity also involved Rusunawa managers, residents, health workers, students, and support teams. Students from College of Health Sciences (STIKes) Dharma Husada Bandung helped residents understand appropriate actions during emergency situations.

Didi said the simulation also reflected cooperation between residents, housing managers, local health agency, and disaster authorities. Rusunawa Cingised was selected because its management is responsible for providing residents with disaster safety knowledge.

He added that disaster safety is influenced by both environmental vulnerability and community capacity. Environmental vulnerability includes building and residential conditions, while community capacity determines how people respond to disaster threats.

The simulation also featured the production of a short film titled “Ada Apa di Cingised”, meaning "What's Happening in Cingised". The activity is expected to encourage similar preparedness programs in other areas and strengthen a culture of disaster resilience.

Student participants welcomed the simulation as an opportunity to expand residents' knowledge about disaster preparedness. They said practical education can help communities better understand evacuation routes, assembly points, and appropriate emergency actions.
