RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's Minister of Forestry, Raja Juli Antoni, stated that Indonesia will issue forestry carbon credits of more than 30 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) by July 2026 as part of efforts to strengthen the national carbon market and attract global climate investments.

In addition, the government will also launch the Carbon Unit Registry System (SRUK) on July 9, 2026, to enhance transparency, accountability, traceability, and certainty for businesses and investors in carbon trading.

Raja Juli conveyed this during his closing remarks at the high-level session titled From Fragile to Financeable – De-risking Carbon Credit Markets as part of the London Climate Action Week 2026 in London, England.

According to Raja Juli, the main challenge of climate financing today does not lie in a lack of ambition or capital limitations, but rather in the absence of an investment ecosystem capable of channeling funding safely and sustainably to various climate solutions.

"The carbon market has great potential to channel investments for emission reduction, forest protection, ecosystem restoration, and sustainable development. However, to achieve this potential, the carbon market must be built on a foundation of integrity, transparency, regulatory certainty, and trust," Raja Juli said in his written statement on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.

He said that Indonesia has a strategic position in the development of the global carbon market considering that Indonesia is one of the countries with the largest tropical forest areas in the world, which plays an important role in efforts to mitigate climate change.

As part of strengthening national carbon governance, the launch of Carbon Unit Registry System (SRUK) will be accompanied by the registration of several forestry carbon projects that use internationally recognized global standards. This system is expected to become the main foundation for a more credible and integrated Indonesian carbon market management.

In addition to preparing the SRUK, the Ministry of Forestry will also issue ministerial approval and facilitate the issuance of forestry carbon credits with a volume of more than 30 million tons of CO2e by July 6, 2026. This volume will be one of the largest in the history of Indonesia's forestry carbon market development.

"This is proof that Indonesia is not only building a policy framework but also presenting concrete market opportunities that investors can trust," he explained.

In the forum, Indonesia also encouraged strengthening international collaboration to accelerate the development of a more credible global carbon market that is attractive for long-term investment. Ahead of the COP31 event, Indonesia considers strengthening the integrity and transparency of the carbon market to be an important factor in increasing investor confidence in climate finance instruments.
