Govt Invites UGM Students to Create Ideas for Future Energy

RRI.CO.ID, Yogyakarta – The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has invited Gadjah Mada University (UGM) to actively participate in shaping the development of Indonesia's electricity sector. This initiative was carried out through the "ESDM Goes To Campus" Electricity Subsector event, themed "Power Up the Future: Students for the Future of Indonesia's Electricity," held at UGM in Yogyakarta on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

Expert Staff to the Minister of ESDM for Public Communication and Media, Dwi Anggia, stated that university students hold a strategic role in generating creative concepts and innovations. This includes supporting Indonesia's transition toward an increasingly reliable, clean, and affordable electricity system.

"I am confident that UGM plays a strategic role here, in Indonesia's journey to create more reliable, cleaner, and more affordable electricity for the country's future," Anggia remarked.

Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at UGM, Selo, noted that the evolution of the energy sector also demands human resource readiness across a wide spectrum of academic disciplines. He emphasized that future energy development requires not only technical professionals but also experts from various supportive fields.

"The workforce demand is not limited to electrical engineering graduates. When we talk about power plant development, we need people in marketing, accounting, and virtually every other field," Selo stated.

Selo further explained that employment opportunities in the energy sector will continue to expand alongside electricity infrastructure development. This demonstrates that energy sector growth is deeply interconnected with numerous academic disciplines, opening up vast opportunities for the younger generation to take on active roles.

The "ESDM Goes to Campus" Electricity Subsector program is organized through a collaboration between the Ministry of ESDM and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). The event serves as an interactive dialogue platform connecting the government, universities, and development partners to enhance youth comprehension and competence regarding developments in the electricity sector.
