DEN Fosters Energy Literacy at University in Southeast Sulawesi

RRI.CO.ID, Kendari – The National Energy Council (DEN) held a National Energy Policy (KEN) socialization event in collaboration with State Islamic University (UIN) Kendari as a strategic step to strengthen literacy and accelerate the sustainable energy transition in Indonesia. The event took place in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

In his keynote speech, Senior Policy Analyst of the DEN Secretariat General, Trois Dilisusendi, outlined the shifting direction of the National Energy Policy. He stated that the government is currently focusing on utilizing more environmentally friendly energy through increasing the role of New and Renewable Energy (NRE), gradually reducing reliance on fossil energy, and utilizing natural gas as a transition energy.

Additionally, the development of nuclear energy has become an important part of the strategy to maintain the reliability of the national energy system. This step is also taken to support decarbonization targets.

Trois explained that the NRE portion is targeted to increase from 19–23 percent by 2030. This portion will eventually become dominant at 70–72 percent by 2060.

He urged an increase in the NRE mix target within the Southeast Sulawesi region. The area is considered to hold massive potential, boasting up to 12.9 Gigawatts of NRE derived from geothermal, solar, and biomass sources.

The success of this energy transition also heavily requires active collaboration from all stakeholders. This collaboration encompasses research institutions, universities, energy users, and the business sector.

In his remarks, Vice Rector I of UIN Kendari, Jumardin La Fua, welcomed the socialization event and expressed hope that it would enhance understanding of strategic national energy issues. Jumardin also expressed openness to future synergies in energy sector development through the preparation of relevant academic studies and research.
