RRI.CO.ID, Bekasi - Minister of Manpower, Yassierli has emphasized that vocational students need to develop not only technical competencies but also human skills, including communication, teamwork, negotiation, and adaptability, as preparation for entering the workforce.

“What we want is not someone who only masters coding, for example. Morning, noon, evening, nite, coding. But he cannot socialize with his work team, does not interact with others. Therefore, these human skills are important," Minister of Manpower said during a Guest Lecture at the Mitra Industri Polytechnic, Bekasi, Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

Yassierli said human skills should be developed while students are still in college through learning processes and experiences that allow them to interact with others. Presentation, communication, teamwork, and negotiation skills are among the abilities that need to be continuously developed before students enter the workforce.

In addition to developing professional competencies, Yassierli encouraged students to build greater awareness of issues affecting society. He said higher education also plays an important role in shaping students who are able to express their ideas and aspirations responsibly.

“Students should become the moral guardians of the nation. Speak up. Indonesia needs students who care,” he said.

The Minister said students’ courage to express their views is part of the dynamics of society. However, he stressed that criticism and aspirations should be conveyed in a respectful, polite, and responsible manner.

Therefore, he encouraged students to make the most of their time in college to develop a well-rounded set of skills, including technical competencies, human skills, industry experience, organizational abilities, and social awareness.
