Indonesia Expands Education Access through School Revitalization

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is expanding efforts to improve education quality through school revitalization and digital learning programs aimed at creating more comfortable learning environments and widening access to technology. The programs are also bringing changes to schools in remote and underserved regions, including areas classified as frontier, outermost and disadvantaged regions.

Based on the release received by RRI VOI, in Jakarta, Sunday, September 6, 2026, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu’ti, said the school revitalization program reached 16,167 education units in 2025. In the same year, the government also distributed Interactive Flat Panels (IFP) to schools as part of efforts to accelerate the digital transformation of learning.

“Alhamdulillah, in 2025, the revitalization of 16,167 education units was successfully implemented, as was the distribution of IFPs to schools,” Abdul Mu’ti said. He explained that the program supports the development of safe and comfortable schools while promoting a more humane, inclusive and participatory learning environment.

The impact is being felt in Keerom Regency, Papua, where education authorities say school revitalization has created more comfortable learning conditions for teachers and students. Keerom Education Agency Head, Deivy Regar said digitalization has also provided students in remote areas with greater access to new learning experiences and helped them keep pace with developments in the digital era.

“This education revitalization program is very beneficial and has been strongly felt by schools in our regency,” Deivy said. He added that digital learning has opened new opportunities for students who previously relied mainly on conventional learning methods.

In Central Kalimantan, the program is also being viewed as an opportunity to reduce disparities in education quality between urban, rural and remote areas. Provincial Education Agency Head Muhammad Reza Prabowo said the initiative has become a new hope, particularly for children living in inland areas of the province.

One of the initiatives developed in Central Kalimantan is the Huma Betang Digital Classroom, which uses hybrid learning to address shortages of teachers in remote areas. Supported by internet connectivity and Starlink devices provided by the provincial government, teachers can teach students in different locations, including subjects that previously lacked sufficient teaching staff.

In Banten Province, school revitalization has focused on improving physical facilities at schools that previously had damaged buildings or insufficient classrooms, while IFP technology has supported more interactive learning. Banten Education Agency Head Jamaluddin said the changes have created more comfortable and conducive learning environments and, in some cases, enabled teachers to connect with students studying from home, reflecting Indonesia’s broader effort to make quality education more accessible across regions.
