Integrated National School Strengthens Education in Nusantara

RRI.CO.ID, Nusantara - Nusantara Capital City (IKN) in East Kalimantan has welcomed its first public school with the start of learning activities at Integrated National School (SNT) 3 IKN on Monday, 10 August 2026. The school’s opening marks a new step in expanding access to education while supporting the development of Nusantara as Indonesia’s new capital.

A total of 82 students, comprising 41 junior high school and 41 senior high school students, make up the school’s first cohort. SNT 3 IKN is one of 17 Integrated National Schools that began providing educational services in 14 provinces during the 2026/2027 academic year.

Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority Basuki Hadimuljono said the establishment of SNT 3 IKN would serve a broader purpose beyond providing educational services. He said the school would also contribute to the development of the urban ecosystem in Nusantara.

“There are only 17 in this first cohort. Of the 17, only one is in IKN. So I think this is because it will not only support the education system, but also support our urban ecosystem,” Basuki said.

Basuki said the availability of schools in Nusantara could support civil servants working in the capital as they bring their families to live in the area. “With this, our civil servants will later bring their families here to attend school, so this is one of the ways to support the development of Nusantara as an urban area,” he added.

SNT 3 IKN has buildings and facilities serving elementary, junior high, and senior high school levels, which have been developed to support teaching and learning activities. The integrated education model is expected to help meet the needs of residents and expand access to education within the new capital.

The school began its first activities with a five-day School Orientation Program from 10 to 14 August to 2026. The program introduces students to their new learning environment while providing lessons on waste sorting, robotics, and the planning and development of Nusantara.

Basuki also expressed hope that SNT 3 IKN will develop into a leading school not only in East Kalimantan but also at the national level. He encouraged the first cohort of students to make the most of their educational opportunities, maintain discipline, and develop their potential.

The Integrated National School program is an initiative of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education under Presidential Instruction No. 10 of 2026 on Accelerating Improvements in Education Quality. The government plans to gradually establish 500 SNT schools across Indonesia by 2029 as part of efforts to expand access to quality education and strengthen regional education systems.
