RRI.CO.ID, Bogor – IPB University in Bogor, West Java, is strengthening its international academic footprint through new partnerships with two of Ireland’s top institutions--University College Dublin (UCD) and the University of Limerick (UL).
The collaboration, initiated by Bambang Purwantara of IPB’s School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, aims to advance research, education, and postgraduate supervision, according to IPB's official website..
The visit, supported by Indonesia’s Education Fund Management Agency (LPDP) under the Matchmaking Program‑DAPT‑EQUITY scheme, focused on joint research, academic exchanges, and curriculum development.
At UCD, Bambang met with leading scholars including Patrick Lonergan, Trudee Fair, Aifric O’Sullivan, and Damien Dempsey. He also toured Lyons Farm, a 250‑hectare teaching and research facility housing dairy and beef cattle, sheep, and horses.
Discussions at the School of Veterinary Medicine with Marijke Beltman centered on veterinary curriculum design, particularly IPB’s upcoming “K2025” program.
Bambang also explored UCD’s clinical and laboratory facilities to identify opportunities in biotechnology and equine reproductive health research. A visit to the Irish National Stud highlighted Ireland’s expertise in breeding elite racehorses.
At the University of Limerick, he met Sean Fair, a pioneer in microfluidics for sperm selection and a key figure in the Bull Nest consortium, which advances cattle reproduction studies across Europe.
Bambang expressed hope that the partnerships will broaden postgraduate education opportunities between Indonesia and Ireland, enriching scientific collaboration and expanding knowledge exchange. ***
