RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) underscored its leadership in shaping Southeast Asia’s higher education future during the ASEAN University Network (AUN) Rectors’ Meeting and Board of Trustees gathering in Singapore, last week.
UGM Rector Ova Emilia served as lead facilitator in a strategic workshop on actionable policy recommendations.
“We formulated concrete measures to strengthen student‑centered leadership, deepen regional cooperation, and enhance global competitiveness of ASEAN universities,” she said in a statement on Wednesday, as quoted on the university's official website.
Over two days, ASEAN university leaders addressed key priorities including digital transformation, quality assurance, student welfare, sustainability, human rights‑based campuses, inclusive education, artificial intelligence in learning, research collaboration, and global engagement.
The AUN Board also reviewed secretariat updates, endorsed upcoming programs, and considered new thematic networks to expand regional cooperation.
Ova emphasized UGM’s active role as a reflection of its strategic commitment to academic excellence, innovation, sustainability, and impactful international partnerships.
“Through regional policy discussions and collaborative initiatives, UGM continues to strengthen its position as a leading university dedicated to advancing higher education in ASEAN,” she noted.
The outcomes of the summit are expected to bolster ASEAN’s collective capacity to address global challenges through stronger inter‑university collaboration, student‑focused education, and evidence‑based policymaking. ***
